Ukrainian forces are preparing for the ‘final struggle.’
Marines in Mariupol claimed Monday that Ukrainian forces are preparing for a “final struggle” to regain control of the southern port of Mariupol, which has been encircled by Russians since the invasion.
“As the ammo runs out, it will most likely be the last combat,” the Ukrainian military’s 36th marine brigade wrote on Facebook.
“For some of us, it’s death, and for the rest, it’s captivity,” it continued, claiming the Russian army had “pushed back” and “encircled” it.
It claimed it had been defending the port for 47 days and had “done everything feasible and difficult” to keep the city under its grip.
Fighting has been centred around the city’s Azovstal iron and steelworks, according to Russian soldiers.
