Ramadan: Liverpool striker discusses the club’s support for Muslim players.

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has spoken out about how the club has supported its Muslim players over Ramadan.

Fasting throughout the holy month, according to Mane, is tough to manage as a footballer owing to training schedules and varying kick-off times.

Premier League players are regularly involved in midweek evening matches as well as a variety of Sunday afternoon kick-offs.

However, prior to this year’s holy month, Mane claimed that he discussed adjusting training times with Manager Jurgen Klopp in order to accommodate the club’s Muslim players.

“Playing, practising, and observing Ramadan is not easy,” Mane told a foreign sports website.

“However, prior to Ramadan, we sought to speak with the captain and advise the boss that we might be able to change the schedule?”

“We practise first thing in the morning.”

“It’s more convenient for us this way.” If you practise in the morning, you’ll have more time to rest and return home… Training at 2 p.m. or 3 p.m. will be challenging.”

“They said yes, which made things simple for me. We’re doing everything we can to do our best.”

“Game day is something else,” he added, “but Ramadan complicates things.”

“Liverpool tried to make things easier for us. We spent a lot of time talking to our dietician before the game. She made things easier for us.”
