Flooding in the Shishper Glacier has severely damaged a bridge.
On Saturday, the RCC Bridge on Karakorum Highway in Hassanabad, Hunza Valley, was seriously destroyed by the heavy flow of water and huge flood in Shishper Glacier.
Traffic on the secondary SAS valley road from Nagar district has been resumed by the Hunza district administration.
Because of flooding, ground erosion along the defensive barriers in Hassanabad is continuing.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), stated that the situation required immediate attention. He directed the administration to guarantee that the local populace was not harmed.
“The PPP cannot abandon the people of Gilgit-Baltistan in their hour of need.” Glaciers are rapidly melting, which is a cause for concern. On environmental changes, we can no longer cover our heads like ostriches,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, on the orders of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the first consignment of relief materials for flood-affected Afghans arrived in Afghanistan on Saturday via a Pakistan Air Force special aircraft.
Tents, wheat, rice, and sugar are among the relief items. On April 9, the second shipment of relief goods will be delivered (Monday).
In his remarks, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan would make every effort to assist flood-affected Afghans.
