Mandela Egbo used to social media to condemn “scummy” pitch invaders.
After a 6-5 penalty shootout triumph over The Robins at Vale Park, the host side advanced to the League Two play-off final.
On a night when there were more violent confrontations on the pitch, with Patrick Vieira kicking out at a fan at Everton, Port Vale fans got into a brawl with Swindon players.
Ellis Iandolo’s late miss propelled Vale to Wembley, and fans rushed the pitch when the 24-year-old blazed over.
Many people rushed over to the dejected Swindon players who were standing on the halfway line.
There appeared to be a fight between players and fans, which lasted until the Swindon squad arrived.
Egbo afterwards shared a photo on social media of himself with a little scrape on his nose.
“How come you scumbag fans get two free shots and barely get a scratch?” he wrote. & I’m expected to remain calm because if I react, I’m the evil person, right?”
“What they [the Swindon players] have had to put up with walking off that pitch… players have been physically and verbally insulted,” Swindon manager Ben Garner told.
I’ve seen it in other play-off games, and I’m not sure where we’re going as a country; it’s simply terrible.”
The duel between Vale and Swindon ended 2-2 on aggregate after ex-Manchester United player James Wilson scored the game’s sole goal to give the home side the victory.
