Three new Highway Code rules go into effect TODAY, and breaking them could result in a £1,000 fine – don’t get caught out.
DRIVERS have been warned that breaking the new Highway Code rules, which go into effect today, could result in a £1000 fine.
If Brits are not careful during the annual update to the driver’s manual, they may be bombarded with penalty notices.
The full changes in the government’s new updated Highway Code can be found on the gov.uk page.
Here are the major rule changes you should be aware of.
Council Authority
Councils in England and Wales that have applied to the Department for Transport can begin issuing fines for traffic violations as of today.
Drivers can frequently slip through.
However, fines for driving the wrong way down a one-way street or stopping in a yellow box junction are now enforced by the government as well as the police.
Councils that have applied and been accepted are now free to issue penalty charge notices (PCNs), some of which could total up to £1,000.
In addition, some offences, such as running a red light, can result in three penalty points on your license.
Experts are concerned that this will result in a significant increase in the number of fines issued to drivers every day.
Other ridiculous rules include stopping before the brow of a hill, not mounting the kerb, and braking harshly.
