Britain will propel M270 multiple-launch rocket systems to Ukraine.

Despite Russia’s threat to the West, the UK is sending its first long-range missiles to Ukraine, according to the defence secretary.

According to Ben Wallace, the M270 multiple-launch rocket system will aid Ukraine’s defence against Russia.

The UK government has not confirmed the number of weapons that will be sent, but it is understood that three will be sent at first.

The decision was coordinated with the United States, which announced last week that it would also provide a rocket system.

The US move has already enraged Moscow, and Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened on Sunday to expand the list of targets Russia will attack in Ukraine if Western countries send long-range weapons to Kyiv.

What are the weapons?

How long can the West maintain its unity over Ukraine?

The Ukrainian military will be trained in how to use the launchers in the UK in the coming weeks, according to the UK government.

Mr Wallace announced the move, saying the UK would take the lead in supplying Ukrainian troops with the “vital weapons they need to defend their country from unprovoked invasion.”

“As Russia’s tactics change, so must our support for Ukraine,” he said.

These highly capable multiple-launch rocket systems will allow our Ukrainian friends to better defend themselves against the brutal use of long-range artillery, which Putin’s forces have used indiscriminately to flatten cities.”
