A man was arrested after planting flowers on his fiancée’s grave.
Hannah Ford, Winston “Winchester” Hagans’ fiancée, was killed in a three-car crash in January 2021, about a month after the couple got engaged.
On the advice of his late partner’s father, a man who planted flowers on his fiancée’s gravesite was arrested and fined for criminal littering.
Winston placed a planter box full of fresh flowers and a photo of the two of them on Hannah’s grave in Auburn, Alabama, to honour her.
Winston, on the other hand, was arrested earlier this year on a charge of criminal littering.
While city officials had assured him that he could place the planter at Ford’s gravesite, they were forced to enforce a law prohibiting this if a complaint was filed.
Winston later discovered that the complaint was filed by Tom Ford, his fiancée’s father, who did not approve of their relationship.
This would be suspended as long as Winston did not place any additional flowers or planter boxes on his fiancée’s grave.
Winston’s attorney, Jeff Tickal, stated that a written appeal would be filed within two weeks of his guilty verdict.
If he wins his appeal, he will be granted a new trial and the fines and court costs will be waived.
Winston wrote on his website about meeting Hannah at a coffee shop in Montgomery, Alabama.
Her father was the pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Montgomery, and his father was an evangelist in Opelika, Alabama.
Hannah was a rising star in Alabama Republican politics, having worked on several political campaigns, including Roy Moore’s US Senate campaign in 2017.
Moore lost the election to Democrat Doug Jones after a woman accused him of initiating a sexual encounter when she was 14 years old.
Hannah left politics around the time her relationship with Winston was becoming more intense.
The couple enjoyed cooking together and spent time discussing their future plans.
