Various people killed and injured in an Afghan mosque bombing.
During Friday prayers, a bomb exploded at a mosque in northern Afghanistan, killing at least one worshipper and injuring seven others, according to police.
The blast occurred in the northern province of Kunduz, in a district where dozens of worshippers were killed in a similar bomb attack in April.
One worshipper was killed in Friday’s blast at the Alif Birdi mosque in Imam Shahib district, according to provincial police spokesman Qari Obaidullah Abedi.
“The explosives were hidden within the mosque. The explosion happened while worshippers were offering Friday prayers “He explained to AFP.
A medic at the provincial hospital confirmed the death and injury toll.
So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Following the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan from a US-backed government last year, the country’s bombings have decreased, but Daesh has continued to target minority communities in attacks.
Several bombings occurred in Afghanistan during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which ended on April 30, some of which were claimed by Daesh.
A blast at a mosque in Imam Shahib district on April 22 killed at least 36 worshippers and injured scores more in one of the deadliest attacks since the Taliban retook power.
The blast was aimed at members of the minority Sufi community who were performing rituals following Friday prayers.
In Afghanistan, the regional Daesh branch has repeatedly attacked Shias and minorities such as Sufis.
