Heavily-armed Finland warns Vladimir Putin and promises to fight if it is attacked.
The commander of Finland’s armed forces declared today that should the Kremlin authorise an invasion, his people would be forced to battle tooth and nail against Vladimir Putin’s forces.
According to Finland’s commander of military forces, the country has spent decades preparing for a Russian invasion and would put up strong fight if it happened.
The Nordic nation has amassed a significant arsenal. General Timo Kivinen noted that in addition to the military equipment, the motivation of the Finns to battle is an important consideration.
According to an interview with Kivinen, “the most vital line of defence is between one’s ears, as the war in Ukraine illustrates at this time.”
In the 1940s, Finland took part in two conflicts.
It was originally a non-aligned nation, but due to worries that Russia would invade like it did invading Ukraine on February 24, it is now applying to join the NATO military alliance.
Helsinki has maintained a high degree of military readiness ever since World War Two.
With a heavy reliance on firepower, armoured units, and airforces, Kivinen added, “We have methodically constructed our military defence particularly for this type of conflict that is being waged there (in Ukraine).”
Both Finland and Ukraine have proven to be difficult for Russia to swallow.
During the two wars Finland waged against the Soviet Union, 100,000 Finns died and it lost a tenth of its area.
The 5.5 million-person country has 280,000 wartime troops.
