Brooklyn, New York \u2013 A massive manhunt was launched in New York City on Tuesday in pursuit of a man who opened fire on scared subway commuters while donning a gas mask and detonating two smoke bombs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to authorities, a motive for the incident in Brooklyn has yet to be determined, and the inquiry is not being classified as terrorism at this time. There were no injuries that were life-threatening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a news conference, New York City Police Commissioner Keechan Sewell said the suspected shooter put on a gas mask when he arrived at the station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Sewell, the shooter “released two canisters that dispersed smoke into the subway vehicle.” “As the train approached the 36th Street stop, he shot many victims.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We are really lucky that this isn’t any worse,” Sewell added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to NYPD Chief of Staff James Essig, the shooter fired 33 shots. After the inquiry, authorities discovered a Glock 17 nine-millimeter pistol, three additional ammo magazines, and a hatchet at the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sewell characterised the “person of interest” as a “dark-skinned guy” wearing an orange vest and a grey hooded sweatshirt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She continued by stating that no one was being held in custody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police got a call just before 8:30 a.m. reporting a gunshot (1230 GMT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Passengers rushed out the doors as the train reached the 36th Street station, some of whom seemed to be injured, according to footage authenticated by social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Yav Montano’s CNN story, he was in the car when it began to fill with smoke and bullets were fired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I didn’t realise it was a gunshot at the time because it sounded like fireworks,” he added. “It just sounded like a lot of dispersed popping,” says the narrator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Montano, there were 40 to 50 people in the vehicle at the time, and a stampede started at the front, but the door to the next car was shut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Some people’s garments, their jeans were covered in blood,” Montano added, adding that he couldn’t determine who had been hurt. “All I remember is seeing a lot of blood.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As soon as the train arrived at the station, the doors opened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“People streamed out, they forgot their bags and shoes, and they just left everything to get out of there as quickly as they could,” Montano added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On a smoky platform, people tend to injured victims while subway authorities direct panicked passengers, some of whom are still clutching their coffee cups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sam Carmano was aboard a subway train coming in the opposite direction when the mayhem broke out on the platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“My subway door opened into a tragedy, and then there was people rushing away from whatever was going on, and then it was smoke and blood and people screaming,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Witnesses are needed.
Vice President Joe Biden addressed the incident while touring Iowa, thanking first responders and residents who “didn’t hesitate to assist their fellow travellers.” He also claimed that his team was in frequent contact with officials in New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Until we discover the criminal, we’re not going to stop,” Biden promised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
