When Deputy Speaker Dost Mohammad Mazari arrived to head the session convened to elect the chief minister, the Punjab Assembly hall transformed into a battleground today (Saturday).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite the presence of security officers, parliamentarians from the ruling party allegedly threw \u201clotas\u201d at Mazari, attacked him, and pulled his hair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After the incident, Mazari exited the room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The PA session was supposed to begin at 11:30 a.m., however it was postponed due to the PTI members\u2019 absence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When PTI legislators carried \u201clotas\u201d to the chamber and began chanting \u201clota, lota\u201d (turncoats) as they lashed out at dissident PTI lawmakers, they created a disturbance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The purpose of today\u2019s meeting is to elect the chief minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Outside the assembly, PML-N lawmaker Ataullah Tarrar urged the Chief Justice of the LHC to look into the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are not interfering with the house\u2019s proceedings in any way.\u201d We will not leave till the election is completed. \u201cWe\u2019ll wait till 12 a.m.,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pervez Elahi vs. Hamza Shahbaz<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The two contenders, Hamza Shahbaz and Parvez Elahi, are likely to compete fiercely. Hamza is a joint candidate of the PML-N and other coalition parties, while Elahi of the PML-Q has the support of the PTI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
