COVID-19 pandemic<\/a> killed over 15 million people globally in 2020 and 2021, nearly three times the number of deaths officially attributed to the disease. Meanwhile, the figure in Pakistan was eight times higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\u201cFrom January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2021, the total death toll related directly or indirectly with the COVID-19 pandemic was about 14.9 million (range 13.3 million to 14.9 million).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Faisal Sultan, a former special assistant to the then-prime minister on health, said the WHO statistics on coronavirus deaths in Pakistan was \u201cnot accurate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Sultan supported the government\u2019s mortality figures, claiming that analyses of the number of graveyard burials in key towns revealed no huge numbers of uncounted pandemic deaths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added in a statement: \u201cI need to study the WHO report in depth. We looked up the amount of coronavirus deaths in the cemetery records. We also ran this information via our own system.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
