Sadiq Khan has arrived in New York to begin an economic tour of the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mayor of London will visit San Francisco, Silicon Valley, and Los Angeles over the next four days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meetings with key lawmakers and business leaders at Google and LinkedIn <\/a>are part of the visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Khan said he planned to use the trip to “beat the drum” for London tourist and tech sector following the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Khan stated, “What’s absolutely crucial is that we urge overseas tourists to return to our city.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Tourism, business, and investment will all be encouraged.” We are the most beautiful city on the planet, but we have had a terrible two years.” “We want them back, we need them back,” says the mayor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Khan met billionaire former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg on his first day of the visit, who led the city from 2002 to 2013 and sought unsuccessfully for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Khan will also meet with the current mayor of the city, Eric Adams, to kick off a \u00a310 million tourism drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to GLA calculations, London will lose \u00a37.4 billion in international tourism spending in 2020 alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the GLA, tourism supports one in every seven jobs in the capital and accounts for about 12% of London’s GDP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tourists’ overnight stays in the capital more than halved to 60.8 million in 2021, down from 147.4 million in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tourism campaign will spend \u00a33 million to get more domestic visitors to return to the city. A further \u00a37 million will be spent on an international marketing effort to entice international visitors to return to London.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
