After a 10-day manhunt, US authorities say they have apprehended an escaped inmate, and a guard suspected of assisting him has died after shooting herself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officers reported that murder suspect Casey White, 38, is in prison and that Vicky White (no related), 56, died in hospital after their arrest in Indiana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On April 29, the two disappeared from a Lauderdale County, Alabama, prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are thought to have had a romantic relationship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were last spotted as she was bringing him to a bogus mental health evaluation, according to authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms White was on her last day of work before retiring. She had lately sold her house and informed her coworkers that she intended to spend more time at work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vicky White died in a nearby hospital late Monday after killing herself during the pair’s arrest, according to the Vanderburgh County Coroners Office<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following an autopsy, more details about her death are expected to be published on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Casey White surrendered after the couple’s vehicle crashed after a police chase near Evansville, Indiana, according to Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Today, we took a dangerous individual off the streets. He will never see the light of day again “he stated<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two were last seen driving a copper-colored Ford Edge with an Alabama license plate, according to the US Marshals Service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sheriff Singleton described Casey White, who stands 6 feet 9 inches tall, as “very dangerous” on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms. White, on the other hand, had an impeccable record as a prison guard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Vicky was someone I would have trusted with my life. I truly believe that “Chris Connolly, the District Attorney for Lauderdale County, told reporters. \u201cShe was our go-to person in the jail when we needed something, and she was a reliable employee. That is why it is so surprising.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In September 2020, Casey White was charged with murder in the stabbing death of 58-year-old Connie Ridgeway. He had already been sentenced to 75 years in prison for a series of violent offences committed in 2015, including burglary, vehicle theft, and a police chase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to officials, he confessed to the murder but later pleaded not guilty due to insanity and was awaiting trial at the Lauderdale County Jail when he vanished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
