Hundreds of people have reported seeing a “bright green” fireball in the night sky throughout England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The enormous fireball was seen above the UK at 23:39 BST on Wednesday, according to the UK Network Fireball Alliance (UKFA), and some observers heard a sonic boom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sightings in Stockport, Southampton, London, Wigan, Manchester, Birmingham, Devon, Cornwall, Plymouth, Wales, and Somerset were reported on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UKFA is requesting that any pictures or video recordings be reported to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Last night around 00:39 UT 15 UKMON cameras picked up a very huge meteor occurrence that we term a fireball, [a] extremely brilliant meteor entering Earth’s atmosphere above Somerset,” stated Richard Kacerek, founder of UK Meteor Network (UKMON).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Visually, it was rather amazing, with a green colour [and] other colours usually referring to the meteoroid’s composition,” he continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At 23:39 BST, the UK Fireball Network captured this image of a fireball above the Bristol Channel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“So I’m in Devon near Dorset and it went over us North towards Somerset and then I heard an explosion about a minute later,” Twitter <\/a>user Wolfy claimed. “I have never seen anything that large in my life!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It lighted up the entire sky before breaking up into tiny bits, but it was massive. They continued, “Lit up the night sky blue, then broke up into an orange colour.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
