Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari delivered a resolution requesting New Delhi to immediately halt and reverse unilateral and illegal measures it had done in the Indian-controlled valley, as well as fulfil its duties under relevant UN resolutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before reading the resolution, the foreign minister made a policy statement, revealing that he had written a letter to the president of the United Nations Security Council and the secretary general of the United Nations, highlighting India’s illegal actions in changing the demographic structure of India-controlled Kashmir (IHK).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The minister also stated that the delimitation exercise was intended to further marginalize Kashmiris and pave the way for separatism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Bhutto Zardari stated that Pakistan would continue to reach out to the international community in order to increase international awareness about India’s illegal actions in the IHK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Assembly expressed “grave concern” in the resolution about “a series of illegal measures taken by Indian occupation forces to change the demographic composition of the occupied territories in flagrant violation of international law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The latest attempt at demographic engineering in IHK through a so-called Delimitation Commission constituted in March 2020 in the occupied territory aimed at artificially altering the electoral strength of the Muslim majority in IHK,” the lower house of parliament said, noting that the commission’s recommendations were rejected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The resolution rejected “categorically the report of the so-called Delimitation Commission that seeks to convert the Muslim majority of IIOJK into minority, and further marginalise, disenfranchise, and disempower the Kashmiri population in IIOJK, and advance the political and electoral objectives of the Bharatya Janata Party (BJP),” reaffirming Pakistan’s complete support and solidarity with the Kashmiri people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Assembly further expressed great worry that India is attempting to advance its illegal acts of 5 August 2019 and following steps, all of which have been clearly rejected by Pakistan <\/a>and the Kashmiri people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The house remembered and reaffirmed that the conflict in Jammu and Kashmir was an internationally recognized conflict that has long been on the UN Security Council’s agenda. It<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It further stated that no phoney election based on a sham delimitation exercise can replace the validity and necessity of a free and impartial plebiscite held under UN auspices to allow the Kashmiri people to exercise their right to self-determination in conformity with UNSC resolutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The resolution requests that India abide by international law, UNSC decisions, and the Fourth Geneva Convention by refraining from making any illegal demographic changes in the occupied region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It also calls on the Indian government to end its oppression and widespread violations of human rights and international humanitarian law in IHK as soon as possible, allowing the Kashmiri people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination as enshrined in relevant UN Security Council resolutions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
