New petrol and diesel automobiles will be prohibited in the UK in less than eight years, while electric vehicle sales have been steadily increasing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, surveys show that concern about the quality of the UK’s charging infrastructure is now the number one deterrent to newer customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I attempted to drive across Wales in a normal electric car to determine if my anxieties were warranted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a electric pool vehicle, I travel 175 miles from my home in Cardiff to Nefyn, on the gorgeous Llyn Peninsula in north Wales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The car’s range was shorter than this trip’s duration, but it was about average for a used electric vehicle (the latest models could do this one-way trip without stopping).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I went there via country roads and then returned on the M4, Wales’ lone highway, to test if there were adequate charging stations on both routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I had intended to travel via the A470, Wales’ primary route from south to north, via Builth Wells and Llanidloes, as suggested by my GPS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, after discovering that there were only four “quick” public chargers between Cardiff and Nefyn for my travel, I had to alter my plans to avoid stopping for an extended amount of time and being trapped in rural mid Wales.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
