Three friends on a fishing vacation battled for 30 minutes to catch a 97-pound Blue Marlin, the second largest ever captured in the Atlantic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The South African team of Ben Vorster, Gerhardt Vorster, and Michiel Ross spent six days fishing around the Cape Verde islands before capturing the sea monster on the final day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They were photographed in the shadows of a massive 97-stone Blue Marlin that was 12 feet long, according to an Instagram post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Cape Verde islands are a hotbed for Blue Marlin, with numerous anglers flocking to the archipelago off the coasts of Senegal and Mauritania every year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But the three South Africans had no idea they’d be celebrating the capture of such a massive fish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ben Vorster, 50, was the angler on the reel when the Blue Marlin took hold after captain Ryan “Roo” Williamson “teased” the enormous Blue Marlin up from the depths with what appeared to be little fish for them to eat on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ben struggled with the enormous fish on the reel for nearly 30 minutes before bringing the Blue Martin aboard the boat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Ben is a large game hunter and a difficult farmer.” [He] did an outstanding job fighting the marlin and getting it to the boat in less than 30 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
