Cumbrian-made baby formula is being shipped to the United States in response to acute shortages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kendal Nutricare has received FDA approval to expedite the distribution of approximately two million cans of its Kendamil product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A combination of supply chain challenges in the United States and a manufacturer closing a production due to contamination has resulted in the worst shortages in decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to CEO Ross McMahon, the decision will benefit local dairy farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘I’m ready to leave.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The FDA, which regulates human and veterinary pharmaceuticals, biological goods, food supplies, and cosmetics, had to ensure that the formula satisfied US requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have around 40,000 tons of stock ready to go.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The product takes roughly two weeks to ship by sea, and it is scheduled to reach store shelves by June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have taken on around 30 personnel since we started recruiting last September; we have been training these individuals for about four or five months in order to be able to dry the powder and meet the standards of our present staff, some of whom have been there for 25 years,” Mr McMahon continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It’s excellent news [for local farmers] because England is the only supplier of antibiotic-free organic milk starting on April 1st, which is exactly the standards that they demand in the US, so that’s really unique.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
