Police were called to the blaze on the 85ft( 26m) vessel at Princess Pier in Torquay, Devon, at about 1210 BST on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Members of the public described hearing a bang, before seeing a huge premium of black bank. No injuries have been reported, Devon & Cornwall Police said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Exigency services declared a major incident and officers vacated a near sand and roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The boat, which police said beggared from its landing, was secured by the fire service near the marina’s pier before it sank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Environment Agency( EA) said it was believed to have had about nine tonnes of diesel on board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Joseph Barlow said he heard a loud noise and also saw the fire as walking to the near sand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
” I heard a bang like a gun shot from the harbour, followed by big premium of black bank,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr Barlow said he also saw” a fire coming from the boat in the harbour” and that shortly after firefighters arrived and the area was cordoned off by police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
BBC Devon journalist Louise Mitchell said it looked like the fire” was at the end of a pier”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
” You could clearly see massive dears reaching up into the air and the premium of bank was just enormous,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She added that coastguards had been emptying the area around Torre Abbey Meadows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a tweet, the EA said as the vessel had now sunk, the focus was” now on pollution”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An EA spokesperson added that the response to that trouble would be led by the harbour master, while the agency would give” advice and guidance on bathing water quality”.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
