The suspect in the beating death of a British man in Ibiza will stand trial for murder.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The alleged killer of a British man who was beaten to death while attempting to break up a fight in Ibiza will go on trial for murder today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mitchell Andrew Loveridge, 25, has been warned that if he is found guilty of intentionally killing Harry Kingsland, a 21-year-old club promoter, he could face up to 25 years in prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Loveridge was scheduled to stand trial last September, shortly after being ordered back to prison on remand nearly 14 months after being bailed in connection with the July 18, 2018 incident. Following a suspension, the start date was rescheduled for today in the Majorcan capital of Palma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prosecutors are seeking an 18-year prison sentence for the Welshman from Llwynypia in the Rhondda, while private prosecutors representing Harry’s bereaved parents are seeking a 25-year sentence if convicted of murder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He allegedly attacked Harry, from Solihull, as he lay on the ground after allegedly knocking him out with a punch to the head in an attempt to prevent him from separating two other rowing Brits inside a flat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Loveridge was arrested after jumping from the second-floor apartment and was held in a Spanish prison for more than six months before being released on bail on January 30, 2019. A jury of nine will hear his case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The defendant punched Harry Kingsland hard in the head, leaving him stunned and semi-conscious on the ground,” according to a five-page state prosecution indictment filed ahead of the trial. He punched Harry several more times to the front and side of the head until he killed him, taking advantage of the fact that he had no way of defending himself because he was trembling and convulsing on the floor.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Harry’s family, Spanish lawyer Oscar Hernanz accused Loveridge of punching Harry in the side of the head with his back turned and continuing to attack him on the ground after knocking him out with “unjustified viciousness and the clear intention of causing harm.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
