The PTI petitioned the Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday, requesting that the federal government and other relevant authorities refrain from using “coercive measures or intimidating tactics,” resorting to violence, or creating obstacles for party activists and leaders planning to participate in the party’s second march on Islamabad, which they describe as a “upcoming peaceful assembly.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The PTI made the request in an emergency petition filed in the Supreme Court today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The petition, a copy of which is available, details the circumstances surrounding the party’s last march on Islamabad on May 25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On that day, raucous PTI workers forced their way through shipping containers separating them from Islamabad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The government arrested over 1,000 PTI leaders and workers on the eve of the march in an attempt to derail the party’s march plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Section 144 was imposed in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and Karachi, as well as other major cities across the country, while the Punjab government sought the deployment of Rangers to maintain law and order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On May 26, Imran Khan resigned prematurely after giving the government a six-day deadline to announce elections and threatening to return to the capital if his demand was not met.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The deadline has passed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
