DRIVERS have been warned that breaking the new Highway Code rules, which go into effect today, could result in a \u00a31000 fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If Brits are not careful during the annual update to the driver’s manual, they may be bombarded with penalty notices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are the major rule changes you should be aware of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Council Authority<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Councils in England and Wales that have applied to the Department for Transport can begin issuing fines for traffic violations as of today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Drivers can frequently slip through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, fines for driving the wrong way down a one-way street or stopping in a yellow box junction are now enforced by the government as well as the police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Councils that have applied and been accepted are now free to issue penalty charge notices (PCNs), some of which could total up to \u00a31,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, some offences, such as running a red light, can result in three penalty points on your license.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Experts are concerned that this will result in a significant increase in the number of fines issued to drivers every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
