According to health officials, London is the epicentre of the UK’s monkeypox outbreak<\/a>, with nearly 70% of cases reported in the capital so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) confirmed six new cases of the virus yesterday, which appears to be spreading from person to person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There have been 188 monkeypox cases in England so far, with 132 of them occurring in London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are also five confirmed cases in Scotland, two in Northern Ireland, and one in Wales, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the UK to 196.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the UKHSA, 111 cases of gay, bisexual, or other men who have sex with men are known (GBMSM). There are only two cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

. Only two of the cases involve women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The current outbreak is the first time the virus has been passed from person to person in England where no travel links to an endemic country have been identified,” the statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recent foreign travel to a number of European countries in the last three weeks has been reported by 34 confirmed cases, accounting for approximately 18% of those affected to date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So far, the UKHSA has found links between gay bars, saunas, and the use of dating apps in the UK and abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
