{"id":17907,"date":"2022-06-02T23:07:20","date_gmt":"2022-06-02T18:07:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyrapidnews.com\/eng\/?p=17907"},"modified":"2022-06-02T23:08:09","modified_gmt":"2022-06-02T18:08:09","slug":"nearly-400-britons-break-the-world-record-for-the-most-mermaids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyrapidnews.com\/eng\/2022\/06\/02\/nearly-400-britons-break-the-world-record-for-the-most-mermaids\/","title":{"rendered":"Nearly 400 Britons break the world record for the most mermaids ever gathered in one place."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Thursday, hundreds of people broke the world record for the largest-ever gathering of mermaids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 2022 Mermaid Challenge in Plymouth, Devon, attracted 388 &#8220;merfolk,&#8221; including men, women, and children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It breaks the previous Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of mermaids and mermen, which stood at 300.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Participants may be shirtless, wear a swimming shirt, a bikini top, a swim costume top, or a clamshell bra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their lower half had to resemble a fish, with a flare of material covering their feet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Queen&#8217;s Jubilee celebrations were met with a &#8220;fabulous turn out,&#8221; according to organizer Pauline Barker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hundreds of merfolk can be seen sitting around the lido in brightly coloured wigs, neon tops, and glitzy tails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to a spokesman for the event, they have unofficially broken the record, but they need confirmation from Guinness next week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Guinness defines a merperson as a &#8220;mythological creature with the top half of their body being that of a human and the bottom half a tail of a fish,&#8221; implying that the costumes must meet certain criteria. All participants were required to wear a fishtail costume skirt that was fitted from the waist to the ankles and had a flume or flare of material that extended over and covered the
