According to the report, in addition to destroying 698 computers, 344 vehicles, and 1,500 radiation dosimeters, troops killed nine Ukrainians and kidnapped another five.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials are still trying to figure out the extent of the site’s damage and what it means for Chernobyl and the surrounding area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Russian forces have been accused of shelling the plant recklessly and “digging in” defensive positions within the exclusion zone, potentially spreading radioactive soil when they leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There have also been reports of Russian soldiers being poisoned by radiation after being stationed near the power plant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chernobyl was the site of the worst nuclear disaster in history in 1986, and it has been under strict regulatory control ever since to contain the radiation. An exclusion zone of approximately 1,000 square miles is enforced around the site to limit access to hazardous areas and to limit the spread of radiological contamination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
