The fire that started in the basement of a superstore inside a multi-story building near Karachi’s Jail Chowrangi on Wednesday had not been completely extinguished by Friday evening, according to officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Deputy Commissioner East Raja Tariq Chandio stated that firemen stated that the fire had been put out at least four times but that it kept rekindling. So far, they’ve been dousing the smoke while the fire burns inside the basement, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Thursday, Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab declared that the fire, which had killed one person and rendered three others unconscious after breaking out on Wednesday, had been “completely extinguished.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mubeen Ahmed, Chief Fire Officer of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), added that over a dozen fire tenders were involved in bringing the fire under control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chandio told on Friday that no one believed the firefighters because the fire kept rekindling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The main issue, according to Chandio, was that the store’s owners had used the basement, which was meant for parking vehicles, to store edibles and other items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The DC stated that he had received reports that store officials had stockpiled a large amount of cooking oil in anticipation of a price increase, adding “fuel to the fire.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
