Songwriter Andy Stone claims he co-wrote a song with the same title five years ago, claiming that Ms Carey took advantage of his “popularity” and “style.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The two songs appear musically different despite sharing a title, but Mr Stone claims Ms Carey caused confusion and did not ask for permission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ms Carey has yet to respond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms Carey admitted in a recent memoir that she wrote “most of the song on a cheap little Casio keyboard.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the complaint, Ms Carey, her co-writer Walter Afanasieff, and record label Sony Music Entertainment earned “undeserved profits” from the song, and the defendants “knowingly, wilfully, and intentionally engaged in a campaign” to infringe copyright.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
