An internal investigation has been launched by a council over an employee’s alleged involvement in a social media video about Michaela McAreavey’s murder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ms McAreavey was killed in 2011 while on her honeymoon in Mauritius.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A group of people appears to be singing a song mocking her death in the video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council called the behaviour “sectarian.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“While we acknowledge that the behaviour was undertaken in a private capacity, outside of the Council’s control, we wish to reassure the public that we are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness, and have launched an internal investigation,” the council said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It stated that we “completely condemn this type of defamatory and slanderous behaviour.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ms McAreavey, a 27-year-old County Tyrone Irish language teacher, was the daughter of Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) football manager Mickey Harte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Twelve days after her wedding, she was discovered strangled in a bathtub at her honeymoon hotel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her family and husband, John McAreavey, continue to lead a campaign to find her killers, but no one has been convicted so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr McAreavey said on Friday that “Michaela was a vessel of love, courage, and dignity” and that “hate can hurt but never win.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
