In the aftermath of the Partygate scandal, Conservative MPs will decide whether to remove Boris Johnson from office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hundreds of Conservative MPs have written to party leaders demanding that the Prime Minister resign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Backbenchers’ rage has grown since Sue Gray’s official report into lockdown parties in No 10 was published last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cabinet ministers have rallied behind Mr Johnson ahead of the election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If the majority of Tory MPs vote against him, he will be removed from office and a leadership election will be held to replace him as Tory leader and Prime Minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Assuming that every Conservative MP votes and no one abstains, that totals 180.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The vote will take place in Parliament between 18.00 and 20.00 BST, and the outcome will be announced shortly after. During a private address to his backbenchers this afternoon, Mr Johnson will try to rally support before the election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The confirmation of a no-confidence vote comes after more than a week of speculation about the PM’s future following the publication of Ms Gray’s report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An interim version of the report, published in January, prompted a small number of Tory MPs to call on Mr Johnson to resign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the full version, which revealed the extent of Covid’s rule-breaking in No 10, has renewed calls within the party for him to resign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
