According to a major study, a GAME-CHANGING drug can help tubby adults lose up to 52 pounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The highest-dose of the weekly injection, known as tirzepatide, resulted in obese adults losing more than a fifth of their bodyweight in less than a year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These outcomes are comparable to those seen with stomach-stapling surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to experts, the drug has the potential to revolutionize obesity treatment and reverse the type 2 diabetes epidemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Others, however, are concerned that it only serves to keep the pounds off while slimmer people continue to take the jab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was originally developed to treat diabetes, and it works by targeting hormones that control appetite, reducing hunger and calorie intake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the study, however, side effects include vomiting and diarrhea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Notably, about nine out of ten individuals with obesity lost weight while taking tirzepatide,” said lead researcher Professor Ania Jastreboff of Yale University. “Obesity should be treated like any other chronic disease\u2014with effective and safe approaches that target underlying disease mechanisms.\u201dThese results underscore that tirzepatide may be doing just that.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The study included 2,539 tubby adults, none of whom had diabetes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Volunteers given the highest dose of tirzepatide lost 52 pounds (or 22.5 percent of their body weight) after 16 months, while those given lower doses lost between 35 and 49 pounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
