An office worker took the day off to participate in a marathon challenge: a world record pub crawl of 56 bars in 24 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gareth Murphy, 29, drank a drink in each of the 56 pubs before moving on to the next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gareth, an IT worker, went on a giant pub crawl in Cardiff, drinking a mix of alcoholic and soft drinks throughout the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And he easily beat the previous world record of 51 pubs. “I lost track of how many toilet breaks I took,” Gareth admitted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“At first, it was minimal, maybe once every ten pubs, but by the end, I think I was going once every two or three pubs.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I knew the best location for this was in the heart of Cardiff.””<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gareth, from Caernarfon in North Wales, chose the Welsh capital because it has the highest density of pubs, bars, and clubs in the UK, with over 300 licensed premises in a 0.5 square mile area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He began the day shortly after 10 a.m. with a lemonade in a Wetherspoons, before continuing until 9.26 p.m., when he reached 56.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When it came to drinks, his strategy was to choose “whichever went down the easiest.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“However, as the day progressed, I did notice that apple juice went down better than orange juice,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The bloating from drinking so much was by far the most difficult part. It didn’t help that I couldn’t make myself burp.” It had been a long and exhausting day. “The most difficult thing I’ve ever done in my life.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gareth’s favorite drink is “a good, cold pint of Guinness,” but he had to limit himself to only 125ml for this record attempt.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
