Temperatures are expected to reach 33 degrees Celsius when a “Spanish plume” hits the UK on Friday, according to forecasters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The previous hottest day of the year occurred on May 17, when the temperature at Heathrow reached 27.5 degrees Celsius.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Highs are expected to be well above average for this time of year, making Britain hotter than Hawaii.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Temperatures will rise through the week, becoming well above-average by Friday, when many parts of the southern half of the UK are likely to reach 30C or even 33C in isolated spots,” said Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Rudman. This is the first hot spell of the year, and temperatures above these levels in June are still unusual. Many areas will also experience some warm nights, with overnight temperatures in the mid to high teens.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Temperatures in the mid-30s Celsius have not been recorded in the UK in June since 1976.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
