After peaceful Baloch protesters in Karachi were beaten and detained by police outside the Sindh Assembly late Monday night, almost universal condemnation poured in, with journalists, analysts, and politicians from all political parties condemning the violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Several videos circulated on social media showing police manhandling and forcibly dispersing protesters. Around 28 of them were apprehended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Sunday, approximately 120 to 130 people, including women, took to the streets near the main gate of the Sindh Assembly to protest the alleged abduction by law enforcement agencies of two Baloch students from the University of Karachi (KU).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Doda Baloch and Ghamshad Baloch, both KU Philosophy Department students, were allegedly taken from their home near Maskan Chowrangi in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on June 7, and their whereabouts have been unknown since. For the past four days, their relatives and members of civil society organizations have been camping outside the Karachi Press Club (KPC). They made it to the Sindh Assembly’s main gate on Sunday night and staged a sit-in demanding the release of the missing students. The police and district administration talked to them and convinced them to leave because the provincial legislature’s budget session was about to begin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to South-SSP Asad Raza, the police detained 19 men and nine women as they attempted to enter the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rehman condemned the Sindh police in a late-night tweet for their “shameful role” and “disrespect” for Baloch women. “On June 15, we will hold rallies across Balochistan,” he said, instructing his supporters to organize peaceful protests in every city across the province.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
