The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion has been absent from the courts since injuring her leg in the first round of SW19 last year. Williams has dropped to 1,208 in the world rankings during her absence, but she gave the strongest hint yet that she is returning to reclaim her title ahead of the 2022 edition of the grass-court grand slam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Williams captioned an Instagram photo of her trainers on grass to her 14.9 million followers, “SW and SW19.” It’s a scheduled date. See you in 2022.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With Andy Murray’s participation in doubt due to an abdominal strain suffered in Sunday’s Stuttgart final, Williams’ presence would be a huge boost for organizers. She also tagged Eastbourne, which hosts a WTA event the week before Wimbledon, in the social media post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because of her ranking, the seven-time Wimbledon singles champion will have to rely on a wild card to compete. It just so happens that the winners will be announced later today, ahead of the start of the SW19 tournament on June 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
