Following an explosion at a Sikh temple in Kabul, there are concerns for the safety of dozens of worshippers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The explosion occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, and it is unknown if anyone was injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Gornam Singh, a local official on the scene, there were up to “30 people inside the temple” at the time of the blast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We don’t know how many are alive or how many are dead,” he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The Taliban aren’t letting us in, and we’re at a loss for what to do,” Mr Singh added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tolo, a local broadcaster, aired footage of heavy grey plumes of smoke rising from the volcano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The temple is the capital’s last remaining Sikh temple, and community leaders recently estimated that only 140 Sikhs remain in predominantly Muslim Afghanistan, down from 100,000 in the 1970s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The assault is the city’s latest since the Taliban reclaimed control of Afghanistan last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
More than 20 people were killed and 16 others were injured in a gun and bomb attack on a military hospital in the city in December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
