A new study has revealed how dogs perceive their toys, including how they identify favorites and imagine familiar objects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Researchers from E\u00f6tv\u00f6s Lor\u00e1nd University in Budapest published a study in the Journal of Animal Cognition that looked at how “typical family dogs” use smell, vision, and texture to identify teddies, balls, and other objects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We now know that when dogs imagine a specific object, they imagine the various sensory features, such as how it looks or smells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This means they can use their senses to identify specific toys that you request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So you can teach your dog what a teddy bear is and he or she will learn to bring it to you by the fluffy and soft texture in their mouth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The owner would occasionally hide a new toy among the others and reward the dog with praise, play, or food when it retrieved it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
