This tragic event has led to an escalation in tensions and has disrupted what was previously seen as promising progress towards a cease-fire deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The primary sticking point in the negotiations is Israel’s demand to maintain control over the Philadelphi Corridor, a narrow strip of land along Gaza’s border with Egypt. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu argues that this control is crucial to prevent Hamas from using tunnels to smuggle weapons. However, this stance is deeply controversial, with critics, including Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, arguing that maintaining control of the corridor is less important than securing the release of hostages.
