OpenAI has announced it will roll out parental controls for ChatGPT as concerns mount over the technology\u2019s impact on young users following a lawsuit linking the chatbot to a teenager\u2019s suicide.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a blog post on Tuesday, the California-based company said the new tools are designed to help families set \u201chealthy guidelines\u201d tailored to a teen\u2019s stage of development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The upcoming changes will allow parents to link their accounts with their children\u2019s, disable chat history and memory features, and apply \u201cage-appropriate model behavior rules.\u201d OpenAI also said parents would be able to receive alerts if their child displayed signs of distress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese steps are only the beginning,\u201d the company said, adding it would seek input from child psychologists and mental health experts. The new features are expected to be implemented within the next month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move comes just a week after a California couple, Matt and Maria Raine, filed a lawsuit accusing OpenAI of responsibility for the suicide of their 16-year-old son, Adam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The suit alleges ChatGPT reinforced Adam\u2019s \u201cmost harmful and self-destructive thoughts\u201d and that his death was the \u201cpredictable result of deliberate design choices.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
