Tehran will not accept the US demands that it reverse an acceleration of its nuclear programme before Washington lifts sanctions, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Friday.<\/p>\n

The demand \u201cis not practical and will not happen\u201d, he said at a joint news conference in Istanbul with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu.<\/p>\n

The new administration of US President Joe\u00a0Biden\u00a0has said Tehran must resume compliance with curbs on its nuclear activity under the world powers\u2019 2015 deal before it can rejoin the pact.<\/p>\n

Iran\u00a0breached the terms of the accord in a step-by-step response to the decision by\u00a0Biden\u2019s\u00a0predecessor Donald Trump to abandon the deal in 2018 and reimpose sanctions on Tehran.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month,\u00a0Iran\u00a0resumed enriching uranium to 20% at its underground Fordow nuclear plant – a level it achieved before the accord.<\/p>\n

However,\u00a0Iran\u00a0has said it can quickly reverse those violations if US sanctions are removed.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the United States fulfils its obligations, we will fulfil our obligations in full,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Iran\u2019s\u00a0parliament, dominated by hardliners, passed legislation last month that forces the government to harden its nuclear stance if US sanctions are not eased within two months.<\/p>\n

Zarif also condemned US sanctions against Turkey over Ankara\u2019s decision to procure Russian S-400 defence systems.<\/p>\n
