Meghan Markle\u00a0was “America’s princess” who wanted to live a fairytale but was “not good enough” for the Royal Family, Trisha Goddard has claimed.<\/p>\n

The 63-year-old TV presenter lives in the United States and told ITV documentary The Week That Shook The Royals that there was great excitement from across the Atlantic about Meghan marrying\u00a0Prince Harry.<\/p>\n

This unfortunately began to turn sour, with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex telling Oprah in an explosive interview about their difficulties with the British press and individuals inside the monarchy.<\/p>\n

The pair have since quit the UK and walked away from the Royal Family for a new life in California without the expectations and tradition of royal life – but still very much in the public eye as celebrities.<\/p>\n

ITV’s Royal Editor Chris Ship looked into the fallout from the Oprah interview and asked royal commentators about where it left Meghan, Prince Harry and the Royal Family.<\/p>\n

He said that that there were fears that in promoting their brand in America that it could damage the Royal Family in the UK.<\/p>\n

Speaking to talk show host Trisha, Chris said: “In some respects, you can say what Harry has done is damage his grandmother’s institution of monarchy and damaged the view of Britain abroad.”<\/p>\n

Trisha, who had previously said that the royals were “steeped in racism and colonialism,” opened up further about her feelings on the fallout from the Oprah interview.<\/p>\n

She said: “This is not just racism but snobbishness because the Americans think they had their princess who went oversees and married a prince in that fairytale thing and she wasn’t good enough for them.”<\/p>\n

Trisha continued: “The Queen seems to still be, of all of them, to have come out better than all of them as its that grandmother thing and plus the statement came from her.<\/p>\n

“Granny was the one who was doing all the mending. The rest of the Royal Family are like, why are they all so silent? Why is his dad so quiet?”<\/p>\n

The theme that that the royals were becoming more out of touch with the modern world, was reiterated by LA Times columnist Patt Morrison.<\/p>\n

She said: “The monarchy is generally perceived as very fuddy-duddy and out of date and the expulsion or wish to depart from the family by Harry and Meghan was another indicator of that this is a family that can’t keep up.”<\/p>\n
