BEIJING: <\/strong>Three planes of the\u00a0Pakistan International Airlines\u00a0(PIA) carrying a consignment of one million doses of\u00a0Covid-19 vaccine left\u00a0China for Pakistan\u00a0on Sunday\u00a0amidst a sharp rise in\u00a0new coronavirus cases\u00a0in the country.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0PIA Country Manager for China Qadir Bux Sangi, an additional\u00a0two million doses of Covid-19 vaccine will also be transported from China by the national flag carrier on April 29.<\/p>\n

He said two special planes and a PIA regular flight was used to airlift the coronavirus\u00a0vaccine doses from China.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0shipment flies in as\u00a0Pakistan’s tally for confirmed cases reaches\u00a0795,627\u00a0and\u00a0the death toll stands at 17,117.<\/p>\n

Previously, a\u00a0total of 2.56 million vaccine doses had\u00a0arrived in Pakistan from China and 1.5 million doses of the Sinopharm vaccine\u00a0were\u00a0donated to the country.<\/p>\n

The vaccination of people in the age group 50 to 59 also began on April 21.\u00a0The National Command and Operation Centre\u00a0(NCOC)\u00a0started registering citizens above 50 years of age for Covid-19 vaccination from March 30.<\/p>\n

Pakistan began\u00a0its\u00a0vaccination more than a month ago with over a million doses of Sinopharm vaccines donated by China\u00a0after\u00a0Islamabad received\u00a0its\u00a0first\u00a0Covid-19 vaccine consignment after a military aircraft airlifted it from Beijing in February 1, this year.<\/p>\n

According to a senior Chinese official, the vaccine cooperation between Pakistan and China reflects the mutual assistance\u00a0understanding\u00a0between the two as all-weather strategic cooperative partners<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
