President Arif Alvi has taken a medical leave

President Dr. Arif Alvi has taken a leave of absence due to illness. The physicians urged him to take a few days off.

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan and members from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) resigned from the National Assembly earlier this week, ahead of the election for Speaker of the House on Monday.

Shehbaz Sharif, the president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, had planned to run against PTI nominee Shah Mehmood Qureshi in the poll, but the PTI MPs have decided to boycott the session.

Under the auspices of the party’s parliamentary meeting, the decision to resign from the assembly was made.
