The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, has emphasised the need of respecting democratic procedures and institutions in Pakistan.

In response to a query, UN Chief’s spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said Antonio Guterres continues to closely monitor developments in Pakistan at his regular briefing in New York.

He emphasised the necessity to address issues in accordance with the Constitution of Pakistan.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif was accorded a guard of respect at the Prime Minister House on Tuesday as he began his duties.

As the contingents of the armed forces saluted PM Shehbaz Sharif, he reviewed the guard of honour.

The prime minister was introduced to the PM House authorities and personnel.

Shehbaz Sharif, the country’s 23rd prime minister, was sworn in a day earlier after defeating his predecessor, Imran Khan, in a no-confidence vote in the National Assembly. The oath was delivered by Acting President and Senate Chairman Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani.

Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on his election.

Modi emphasised his desire for peace and stability in the area in a tweet.

Shehbaz Sharif thanked people on the peaceful transfer of power in a series of tweets. He expressed his delight in the fact that all of our institutions upheld the constitution as a guiding principle.

According to the prime minister, if the stock market and strengthening currency are any indicator, the road to our objectives has already begun.

He said that the administration was looking forward to continuing to create partnerships with other nations based on mutual respect, equality, and peace.

Shehbaz Sharif stated that the government’s priority was to provide as much assistance to all Pakistanis as possible through combating excessive inflation and reviving the stagnating economy.
