Iqra Extension and Fordham University will provide a Master of Laws degree
Iqra Extension (IUx) and Fordham University in New York, USA, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to offer students a Master of Laws (LLM) degree. Under the terms of the agreement, IUx will provide Pakistani students with the opportunity to earn an LLM, a postgraduate degree meant to improve academic legal understanding. This is the first time in Pakistan that an American-accredited LLM degree is being provided.
Fordham University is ranked No. 37 (tie) in Best Law Schools and No. 3 in Part-time Law. Schools are ranked based on their performance on a set of widely regarded excellence factors.
The MoU was signed by Ellen Fahey Smith, Fordham’s Associate Vice President, and Hunaid Lakhani, IUx’s Chairman and Founding Chancellor. According to the pact, both parties will work together to encourage teachers and students from one university to visit the other for research and education. It also promises to make it easier for competent students from one university to enroll in undergraduate and graduate programmes and, in the case of advanced graduate students, to participate in research.
According to Hunaid Lakhani, the collaboration provides a stepping stone for graduate students interested in pursuing a legal career in the United States.
“Many Pakistani students aspire to study law in the United States.” For far too long, Pakistani academia has been preoccupied with British legal qualifications.
That is something we want to alter. We provide students the opportunity to get an advanced degree in American law through our partnership with Fordham University, which can provide excellent work opportunities for future lawyers in the American system.” Mr. Lakhanii stated.
