✅ What’s confirmed so far
   •   The attack took place on 2 October 2025, during Yom Kippur, at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Crumpsall, Manchester. 
   •   At ~9:31 a.m., a car was driven into pedestrians outside the synagogue, and then the driver exited and stabbed people. A security guard was reportedly among those involved. 
   •   Armed officers responded. At 9:38 a.m., firearms officers shot a man believed to be the attacker. 
   •   The police declared a “major incident.” The incident was treated with the urgency reserved for possible terror situations; the code word “Plato” was used for a “marauding terror attack.” 

🔍 What is not yet confirmed or still under investigation
   •   The identity of the attacker has not been publicly confirmed yet. It is also not clear what the attacker’s motive is. 
   •   Whether the attacker had an explosive device or other “suspicious items” is unconfirmed; there are reports of “suspicious items on his person” prompting a bomb disposal unit to be involved. The police said they cannot yet confirm the suspect’s condition (i.e. whether alive or dead) until those items have been made safe. 

⚠ Casualties, damage & aftermath
   •   Deaths: At least two people were killed. Some reports include the attacker among the dead, bringing the total to three. 
   •   Injuries: Several others are injured—some seriously. Initial reports said four were injured by vehicle/stabbing, others say three seriously. 
   •   Damage: Mostly human harm rather than property damage is reported. The car, being driven into people, and the stabbing caused physical injuries. There’s no widespread damage to the synagogue building itself reported so far. 

🔒 Current status
   •   The suspect is believed to be dead, shot by the police. However, police are being cautious in confirming this because of the “suspicious items” mentioned. 
   •   Police and emergency services are on site. Nearby roads are cordoned off, the bomb squad has been deployed, etc. There is no indication currently of further immediate danger. 
   •   Nationally, additional security has been deployed around synagogues and Jewish community locations. The Prime Minister has ordered heightened protection and is leading an emergency meeting.
