British International Investment plans to expand investment in Pakistan
British International Investment (BII) has expressed plans to increase investment in Pakistan over the coming years, with the British development finance institution identifying the country as a key investment destination.
The development came during a meeting between Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and a BII delegation, where both sides discussed expanding investment and financing for Pakistan’s private sector.
According to an official statement, the BII delegation said it would explore new investment opportunities in Pakistan and expressed its intention to increase its investment in the country in the coming years.
BII eyes infrastructure and climate finance
The delegation said BII plans to invest more than $2 billion across Asia and Africa over the next five years.
During the meeting, BII signalled interest in Pakistan’s infrastructure and climate finance sectors, with renewable energy and power transmission projects also discussed as potential areas for investment.
The talks also covered ways to increase financing for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and the agricultural sector.
Both sides discussed promoting private equity and private credit in Pakistan, as well as the possibility of introducing new capital market instruments to facilitate investment.
The potential tokenisation of existing real estate assets was also discussed as part of efforts to develop new investment avenues.
