Simeone has called for more respect.

Before the second leg of Atletico Madrid’s Champions League quarter-final against Manchester City on Wednesday, Diego Simeone urged detractors of the club’s style of play to show more respect.

Atletico’s ultra-defensive performance at the Etihad Stadium last week was highly panned, with Simeone’s side failing to muster a single shot as City earned a deserved 1-0 victory.

“If I’m not mistaken, I have never chastised a coworker since I began coaching in 2005. Simeone remarked in a press conference on Tuesday, “Never.”

“I believe there are numerous ways to play to get what you want out of each match, but I don’t get involved when someone criticizes a teammate.”
