PM Shehbaz has ordered stringent security for former PM Imran Khan.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed that former Prime Minister Imran Khan be protected at all costs.

Following the revelation of the threat, Prime Minister Shehbaz asked Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah to take urgent security measures for Imran Khan.

Rana Sanaullah was also given the task of personally overseeing the measures.

Following the PM’s directions, the interior ministry issued emergency letters to the Home Secretaries of all four provinces ordering harsh actions against the former prime minister.

According to the letter, rigorous protection should be provided for Imran Khan, and no laxity in this respect would be permitted.

Days after the overthrow of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, Imran Khan launched countrywide demonstrations from Peshawar, after a public meeting in Karachi, and the PTI is currently preparing for a power show in Lahore despite major security concerns.

The existing administration has previously recommended the PTI to conduct the demonstration while security alerts are in effect.

Earlier, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry expressed concern that preparations to murder Khan were being developed.
