COVID field hospital beds sent to Ukraine war refugees.

Hundreds of beds and mattresses that were acquired on short notice for a COVID field hospital are now being distributed to Ukrainian war refugees.

The 500 available beds at the Swansea Bay field hospital will be given to vulnerable people, including families.

The Swansea Bay health board has also said that those who have signed up to sponsor Ukrainian migrants would be provided with beds.

The offer will, according to one organization, “help keep refugee families together.”

Glyn and Jan Davies, from Clydach in Swansea, have signed up and are waiting to be matched with a Ukrainian family.

Ms. Davies said they “don’t have to say no” to hosting a larger family given that they are no longer limited in what they can provide.

“Now, if necessary, we may have a family of three,” Glyn Davies explained, “whereas previously, we would have requested a mother and a daughter to share a bed.”

Furthermore, the health board is working with the local municipality and a charity to provide beds for families experiencing “bed poverty.”

Thousands of people in Wales have agreed to host migrants fleeing the conflict in Ukraine.

The Swansea Bay University Health Board is allocating beds to such families to help them accommodate Ukrainian refugees.

Vicky Martin, the founder of the South Wales Sponsorship for Ukraine Facebook page, described it as a “wonderful chance” for host families to “keep refugee families together.”
